177018/09/1718/09/173Co Board News The following points are the updates from the Area Board Meeting. 1. Coaching Seminars. The first of our Coaching Clinics was held last Tuesday night. Thank you to the Tommy O Mahony and players from Kilkenny Stars. The next coaching clinics are as follows: Tuesday 19th Sept Mark Scannell Tuesday 26th Sept Francis O'Sullivan. The Clinics run from 7pm-9pm in O'Loughlins GAA Hall, Kilkenny and is open for all to attend with a minimum cost of just €5 on the door. These are a great opportunity to learn from 2 of Ireland's top coaches. 2. Referees Course KK/SE Area Board will hold a referees course on Saturday and Sunday14th and 15th October in Mercy Gym Waterford Cost is €30 per person. Places limited. Names to the Secretary. 3. Coaching Courses. The Area Board are running a Level 1 Coaching Course next Saturday and Sunday, places still available if interested please contact the Secretary. The Area Board are also running an Intro Coaching Course on 30th Sept. Places very limited. Please confirm your attendance with the Secretary.
176825/04/1725/04/173Marble City Hawks Nominated for Sports Stars of the Month for April. Kilkenny’s Marble City Hawks have been nominated for KCLR's Sports Stars of the Month for April. The Hawks are after having a fantastic season this year, They reached the National Cup Final and just narrowly lost out to Ulster Rockets in overtime, following on from that they finished third in the regular season and then went on to beat ITC Basketball (Carlow) in the Final of the Women's Division 1 League Play-off with Kelly O’Hallahan picking up league Player of the Year in the process. Francis and Ciaran O' Sullivan will be the Tutors for this Clinic. Both are very experienced Coaches ad have a hugh experience at this level. Admission is €5 and all are welcome. Refreshments will be served

Two of the areas top coaches in Lawrence 'Puff' Summers and recently appointed Ireland Girls U18 Coach Tommy O'Mahony will be on hand to demonstrate the ins and outs of the game. This is open to all in the basketball community to attend whether you are a coach, player or just interested in the game of basketball. Entry on the night is just €5

Ladies Super League Team WIT Wildcats will play UCC Glanmire in the last eight of the Woman's National Cup at 7pm in the Mercy Secondary School Waterford Men's Division 1 Team, Team Kilkenny will play Kanes Supervalue Killorglin in the last eight of The Presidents Cup also at 7pm in the Watershed Sports Complex Kilkenny Woman's Division 1 team, Marble City Hawks will Play Fr Mathews in the last eight of the senior woman's cup away at 7.30pm in Colaiste Chriost Ri in Cork. So if you are at a loose end this Saturday Night and are in Waterford, Cork and Kilkenny head along and give the teams your support. They should be 3 entertaining games of Basketball.

166219/08/1619/08/163THERESA WALSH RATIFIED AS BASKETBALL IRELAND PRESIDENTKilkenny Woman Becomes 24th President Of Basketball Ireland Walsh.jpegKilkenny native Theresa Walsh has been ratified as the 24th president of Basketball Ireland at the organisation's Annual General Meeting on Saturday June 11th. She is the second ever female president of the organisation and the first since Mary Baneham served as President from 1985-1989. She has over 30 years involvement in basketball through schools and with St. Patrick's and Kilkenny Stars basketball clubs. She is a long serving member of the Kilkenny & South East Area Board as well as the National Area Board. Courtside, she has been involved as a Coach, Referee, Table Official and Commissioner.

The board covers a wide area with clubs from Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford, Tipperary, Laois, Waterford and Kilkenny playing in the various leagues. In addition to organising competitions from under 10 to senior level in both male and female sections, the Board also organizes and runs courses for Coaches, Referees and Table Officials.
